Abstract

The teaching of speaking skills is an important aspect in the language learning process. In teaching speaking skills in English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom, the content and the context serves as significant in delivering effective learning. Relatedly, values form an important component in the process of education. Language can be used to reflect and imbibe values through various forms of literature. The paper explores the practical aspects of integrating the teaching of speaking skills and values using Chainarol which is an indigenous folktale of Manipur, a state in Northeast India. The study designed a module to simultaneously teach speaking skills and values using the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach. The objective of the proposed module is to employ the CLIL approach to use and learn language within a value educational context.
