Abstract

The present paper reflects an account of how gender studies developed in the
academic discipline of sociology and investigates the feminist critiques of the
male-centric perspective of the discipline. The paper discusses the feminist
epistemological stances to true claims of knowledge production. The paper
also focuses on the understanding of gender studies in other academic
disciplines and tries to show how it impacts on men's studies. An account of the
development of Women's Studies in India is also entailed in the paper
